Ric Edelman on Bitcoin: Breaking Down the Barriers to Entry (w/ Raoul Pal)

Acclaimed financial advisor Ric Edelman, founder of the RIA Digital Assets Council (www.riadac.com) and Edelman Financial Engines, the #1 RIA firm in the nation according to Barron’s, talks with Real Vision CEO Raoul Pal about the barriers preventing financial managers and investors from buying bitcoin and how the crypto community can gain mass adoption. Edelman explains the benefits of adding Bitcoin to a diversified portfolio, shares his approach to investing in digital assets, and reveals his expectations for a Bitcoin ETF. All this and more, recorded Nov. 30, 2020. Key Learnings: Due to the slow progress of an official Bitcoin ETF, there are significant barriers to entry for financial managers to give their clients exposure to this asset class. Edelman explains how these barriers will eventually be removed. As Bitcoin provides valuable diversification for portfolios where traditional allocations may no longer generate satisfactory returns and hedge risk in the current market environment, there is an urgent need for investors to become educated about the crypto asset class as it approaches mainstream adoption.

I find this interesting. My retirement is with Edelman financial. A newsletter Ric sent out several months ago , he talked about him buying bitcoin. Prior to that, I had asked my advisor(who works for edelman financial) about bitcoin/crypto. He discouraged the thought of investing in it, This was maybe 2 years ago.

Can’t find a vid that has comments turned on “Rice”. You once said you were not going to talk politics yet your entire intro was about politics. Yes, be upset about the capitol insurgence as I am appalled as well but don’t blame it on trump supporters without knowing who actually was there. They simply didn’t fit the demographic and the majority of trumper’s left the grounds when they saw what was happening.

Also, I’ve been listening for a long time and haven’t heard such a fervent diatribe about the “thugs” ( a word that was condemned by liberals last summer when trump used it) while they destroyed cities and yes, killed police, when the the riots last summer were happening every day… so what gives?

You’re ok with it in Portland and Seattle and elsewhere I guess.
Lastly, I WAS going to talk to one of your advisors as I’m in retirement transition after selling my businesses…but I have changed my mind. I’m not the biggest fan of trump but I don’t like hypocrisy even more. One less listener I guess so have at it if you respond as I’ll not know if you did or not, because I won’t be listening.

This guy is so annoyingly arrogant! At this point in time, Devs don't need to learnt your language, if you don't want to be left behind, arrogant Advisors, you have to do what we all had to do – learn on your own feet! He is Definitely not the type of advisor I would trust. The only interviewee on RV that shared no real knowledge nor experience. Who wants to listen to his brags?

Dont protect investors from themselves. Sounds like tame profits. The people who have PROFITED over the previous years DIDN'T NEED YOU. If you talk like that its patronizing and he should be neutered.

Financial advisers should learn what the crypto community is speaking, to be frank, they are the ones that are late. Literally no one cares about late adopters. As Satoshi puts it > “If you don’t believe it or don’t get it, I don’t have the time to try to convince you, sorry.”

    — Satoshi Nakamoto

Bitcoin crashed with the stock market back in March. It is correlated to the overall stock market. All assets are rising and bitcoin is rising as well.

The truth comes out (23 minutes): a financial advisor can be a raging bull on bitcoin…. but he'll keep his mouth shut about it, because he can't collect fees from his client for recommending it.

Thanks for the insight. From this I understand why asset managers join forces to set up crypto custody business and how big the ramifications are.

Raoul Pal: 34:35 "The minute the BTC ETF launches it'll be pandemonium." — Correct, because elite leaders have so seriously effed up the financial system that nobody sees another way out. I was never that financially savvy, but I and everyone else I know, since 2008, have been educating ourselves as deeply and quickly as we can. We all see crypto as our only safe haven or exit from disaster — as Satoshi Nakamoto intended. The REAL question a financial advisor should be addressing is how to hedge the risks of crypto. Raoul never talks about the huge energy costs of running a proof-of-work blockchain…. costs which add risk to both the profitability (if energy costs rise) and the climate, including future regulation to mitigate climate impacts. People tend to think the "cloud" is free…. it's really not. Running the cloud requires huge areas of server farms all requiring cooling…. So human, out of sight, out of mind… Where are the hedges if running the Bitcoin network becomes an exhorbitant expense? Will it be like negative interest rates where we have to pay a small fee to just HAVE bitcoin as money?

I remember the collapse of ETF’s around 2008. Most of them were effectively insured by AIG. Ha! Without the government rescue of AIG all those ETF’s were worthless. I would not touch them again with yours.
