A few points of clarity here.

You don't necessarily own any asset you purchase as an nft token, as the IP is still likely held by the designer, even if purchase of the asset is seemingly unconditional (ie, there aren't smart contracts attached to that nft). What you "own" is the blockchain "space" that asset is attributed to. The idea that a game asset can be freely used as you would assume an owner has the rights to do so is misleading…not to mention an engineering nightmare for digital artists. The designer will still own IP rights and any attempt to use that asset outside of restrictions will likely still be subject to copywrite violations. Eg, bringing a fortnight skin into COD means a team of COD designers will be plagiarising the IP of fortnight artists. So, you don't really get the benefit of ownership – therefore how can you really qualify ownership?

Scarcity only really works within the principles of economics when you talk about a limited supply of a fungible commodity, as it's much harder to duplicate an authentic instance of something with inherent fungible value than it is to create a digital asset that's unique. For example, a tweet could be an NFT. Being unique doesn't matter otherwise every snowflake, seashell or grain of sand could be minted.
Everything comes back to inherent value.
A painting you own has value becaus There is no reason a digital jpeg of a monkey you "own" as an NFT has any more value than a jpeg of a dog you create yourself in Microsoft paint. And if it's inherent value comes from a unique characteristic of that asset, eg it was made by a celebrity, then it being an NFT is irrelevant…you still don't own that asset in any way that's beneficial of ownership. You could even consider that if the real value of an NFT is it's place on the blockchain, and therefore its token identifier (let's say, serial number) matters more than the actual asset itself – therefore occupying a place on the blockchain is entirely fungible.

The biggest superficial issue a lot of people have with NFTs is the commoditization of assets in such a way that strips them of their artistic merit and integrity. Artists pride themselves on knowing that ownership of an asset is determined by the quality of that asset and it's return on investment as a piece of art, not as a rare line-item on an entirely manufactured digital ledger.

NFT’s in theory sound great but in practice the only company’s getting in on the research floor are those intending to patent and close it off. Google, Amazon or Tencent all want their cut of the profits as the self appointed middle man in NFT distribution (where the REAL money is). Just because you bought a encrypted JPEG for a few grand doesn’t mean it has value. It only has value to those already in the NFT ecosystem which only benefits the corporation(s) that designed them in the first place.
