This is a somewhat deceptive video though not intentionally. For example, the assumption that the cheapest energy is the most likely to be renewable is extremely dubious. Typically the cheapest energy is coal which externalizes most of its true cost. Thus in a typical call plant, the cost of the mining of course is borne by the mining company. However the cost of the pollution and the CO 2 in the atmosphere is a cost that we as a society get to share in general. So this assumption seems just completely wrong. It may be that bitcoin is moving more and more toward renewable energies and that is good if true. But even renewable energies have a carbon footprint. The percentage is not known this is not negligible by any means. It is actually pretty considerable when you compare it to the overall banking system which you did. But that banking system is still vastly larger than crypto. I am an environmentalist but I am not by any means hostile to crypto – I find it very interesting and that is why I am on your channel. I have some bitcoin and plan to buy more as well as other crypto currencies. I like the idea of bitcoin using carbon credits to offset its impact. It would be nice if banks would do that, but I believe it is truthful to say that adopters of cryptocurrency tend to be more forward thinking and less likely to be anti science. That's just a guess I could be wrong. Anyway I really appreciate your clear and thorough videos even if I don't agree with everything in this one.

no one ever brings it up, but imagine the senseless use of power christmas lights are using each and every year. needlessly wasting resources and not a single practical environmentalist says a thing about it before they say anything about crypto mining.

And carbon being plant food is actually not something we want to get rid of (unless we all want to starve to death).
