$200 is pretty high for many people, although with whatever Adobe asks it's probably justified… but still… I chose Movie Studio for it's price only (tried it beforehand). And I'm quite satisfied with it's Platinum 15.0 version (first upgrade, don't remember what I had before). It doesn't crash so much (…don't know how to defend this point ;-)), it supports a lot… sure, it render times are not incredible, but we're talking about $50 on sale.
BUT – this video was useful (that's why I was searching for alternatives/reviews/videos) and I'll try DaVinci Resolve as it really seems an interesting contender. Thank you very much.

As a photography enthusiast with some years of photo-editing experience the improved video-capabilities in DSLMs brought me to also create occasional video-content. Even with many years of software-experience, I found the free Shotcut to be so unintuitive, I did not come to a reasonable workflow. If you are only once in a while editing video, the learning-curve is way too steep for my limited time. I also had few stability issues, which led to loosing work… so still looking for an alternative (thanks for the overview).
My next candidate to review will be Corel's VideoStudio (DaVinci sure is capable… and free for personal use… but also overkill for my use-case to learn)

I used Shotcut for my first video to ever edit. When trying to add audio after finishing all the cutting etc. the whole program shut down. Upon opening the file again everything was jumbled up in a random order and the editing was missing certain places. So frustrating! Downloaded Filmora 9, which was so easy to use! I didn’t know I had to pay for it (figured out there would be a watermark when I was going to export the file), but I ended up doing so and this far I’m very happy with it. Super easy to use!

Justin thank you so much. I know this video is a little old but still helpful. I just bought Powerdirector 365 17 and it is way too advanced for me. I think I'm going to get my money back and just use DaVinci. Your channel and video's are incredibly helpful. Thanks to your whole team.

Hey can you help me? I'm a beginner and poor. I need a free editor for my laptop that gets everything done fast. I just want to add a preset animated title that's pretty. Maybe some choices and rotate my video. For upload on youtube. Now when I take it straight to youtube it uploads in seconds. But every program I tried is either complex(hitfilm), video quality went down (movavi), apps are crazy with the storage game (imovie, adobe rush) or the "preparing" for export takes foooorrrrevvvver. Help me please! It seems like theres gotta be a better way. Everyone cannot possibly be experiencing this.

Do you know of a video edit software that has a automatic slide show Maker that does the Ken Burns effect? I have a slide show I made with an editor I had down loaded the trial version and can't remember what it was and have gone on to another higher performance lap top for editing. Hope you can help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to create and post this video!!! BTW, I had no problems with how long it took to "get to the point" (in our instant gratification society) because I view this as a teaching tool. Anyone can simply watch it at x1.25 speed like I did and still absorb all of the info. It would have taken me over 20 minutes anyway to research all of the potential video-editing software out there, so this was a HUGE help. I was one click away from spending $60 for Filmora, but, thanks to your excellent video, I'm going to try DaVinci Resolve instead. This video is very much appreciated!!

Downloading davinci resolve destroyed my computer…. Prior to downloading it.. its size was so large that if you took my previous two largest downloads, combined them, It would still be double that… I wanted to try applying the size of four items and compare.. but I got lost when thinking that gigs are just information… don't weigh anything… but this computer can't hold it.

But it downloaded successfully, and opened… however… it was sooo slow.. my grandma was like… all you do all day is sit around. That made me insecure soo I turned to reading comments on YT.

First, thank you.. I have surveillance cameras with audio, and bought the VideoPad/WavePad programs from NCH, but am having trouble editing out a 4000 watt generator..Similar to a lawnmower that's not moving around, 4-5hp. Any chance of a video that'll cover engines and lawnmowers? Or, could you point me to anything free that might be able to analyze some common backround noises that sometimes are foreground??

    Justin, please help.
I downloaded Davinci resolve 16 'public beta' free versio. I specially wanted Davinci for its advanced audio editing as Ii will shortly be editing a large number of mainly classical music videos for YouTube.
Problem at the very start: I drag and drop video files and immediately get the message "The selected file does not appear to a supported file."
I've tried .MOV Mpeg4 and, as recommended, MOV converted by EaseFab to DNxHD. What am I doing wrong!?
